Athlete

I am surprised that this band hasn't hit it bug yet. They have multiple albums and multiple singles that you will recognize, but nobody knows them by their name. Athlete is an indie rock band that formed in 1999 in England. Their music is a mixture of indie rock and electronica. They sound a lot like the "English" Killers. I recommend listening to singles; Wires, You Got The Style, Superhuman Touch (The most "Killers-ish" song).

Shout Out Louds

Shout Out Louds is an indie band formed in 2001 out of Stockholm, Sweden. They have released 3 albums Howl Howl Gaff Gaff, Our Ill Wills, and most recently Work. They are most known for their eerie similarities to The Cure specifically the song Tonight I Have To Leave It in comparison to The Cure's In Between Days. While all of their songs are worth a listen, I highly recommend listening to Tonight I Have To Leave It, You Are Dreaming, Impossible, and Walls.

Stray Palace

If you are an Indie fan this is huge news for you!!! This band, like Oberhofer, is about to be huge and nobody knows about them. The only way to listen to their music is on their myspace or if you but their EP from iTunes, thats it. No youtube, no grooveshark, no last.fm. It's just the EP and their Myspace. Stray Palace is a side project by Black Lab's Paul Durham. The first released album was Stray Palace EP in 2009, and represents "an attempt to weld together the funk of American indie dance-rock and the epic vistas of British new wave.

If you like U2, MGMT, Phoenix, Spoon than you will love this band.

I HIGHLY recommend listening and buying their EP. This band will be huge soon!

Unfortunately, my favorite from their EP, Free, is not available for preview on their myspace, giving you more of a reason to buy the EP. Seriously buy it! Now!

Band of Horses - Infinite Arms

Band of Horses released their new album Infinite Arms one week ago today. It is notably different from their previous two albums, however it still offers the same feelings given from previous albums. It s definitely worth a listen, specifically: Infinite Arms, Evening Kitchen, and Dilly.

Stars of Track and Field

Stars of Track and Field is a great band to listen to. Their latest cd, A Time for Lions, is one of my personal favorites. You can here some of their influences in the album such as; The Beatles and Pink Floyd. The name of the band is in reference to the Belle and Sebastian of the same name. I highly recommend listening to a few songs on A Time for Lions. Racing Lights, End of All Time, In Bright Fire, and The Breaking of Waves at least.

Broken Bells

Broken Bells is a band which consists of just two people. James Mercer, vocalist/guitarist from The Shins, and Brian Burton, who is in Gnarls Barkley's band. Burton plays multiple instruments in the band and also works with production. This band obviously has a vibe like The Shins, but there is also some originality brought to it from Burton. I highly recommend checking out The High Road, the first single on their self-titled album.

Dirty Heads

Dirty Heads. Where to begin. They are one of my favorite bands. I have known about them for years and have always been telling people to check them out because all of their songs are great. There is not 1 bad song that they have created, and literally my favorite song of theirs switches every day.

They are the perfect mix between reggae and punk rock and hip hop. They bring back the beloved sounds of sublime that nobody has been able to compete with before. The Dirty Heads have something special, and the world is starting to figure this out.

Not only do they have great songs but the band is fun and they interact with their fans. They host live videos of them in the studio via their Ustream account. In those live videos they play new songs and actually talk to their fans.

Their music is perfect to listen to either on the beach, on a sunny warm day, or anytime while you are high. They have great melodies and lyrical flow that will instantly get you hooked. Their single Stand Tall was featured in the movie Surf's Up and their newest single Lay Me Down ft. Rome from Sublime with Rome is hitting the nation with a bat to face and waking America up and showing them what good music is all about.

Songs I recommend:
Stand Tall
Lay Me Down
Easy
Driftin
Believe

and all of their other songs.

James

James is a band out of the UK that began producing music in the early 80's. James is my personal overall favorite band. I have 150 of their songs and I cannot name one that I dislike. They recently released two mini-albums, The upbeat and catchy The Night Before released in April of 2010 and the dark and much more depressive The Morning After released in September of 2010. These two mini-albums just add more definition and depth to James.

Now what is so amazing about James you ask? Literally everything. I know that seems crazy, but James has it all. An amazing singer in Timothy Booth, quality lyrics that provide meaning and insight, music that is catchy and will keep you listening, and the ability to play live. "They are one of those few bands that I cannot picture recording in a studio." ~Dan Hessler "(The other music doctor). And he is so correct, I have had the privilege of seeing them live and it was breath-taking. In fact I will even go as far to say that they sound even better live then they do on their studio recordings. These days that can be extremely hard to come by.

Over the years I have come to conclude that their is a James song for every mood. Their are songs like Tomorrow and Waltzing Along that pick you up when you are down. Songs like Sometimes, Upside, and Just Like Fred Astaire that are perfect when you are thinking of that special someone. Then their is Dust Motes, Kaleidoscope, and Porcupine (All of the two mini-albums) for when you are in the depressive reflective mood. You name a mood and I will give you a James song to listen too.

Recommended songs: Well all, specifically the ones in the paragraph above, but here are some others...
Waterfall
Tell Her I Said So
Sound
Not So Strong
Born of Frustration
Ring the Bell (The last two listen to Born of Frustration first, then Ring the Bell right after, it sounds great that way.

Cole's Birthday

Today is Cole Tonti's (co creator) birthday!!

Gary Go

Gary Go is an artist from the UK and he is great. His music sounds a lot like Keane as it is melodic and piano, as well as a similar voice. His cover of Just Dance (originally by Lady GaGa) is stupendous. He is most known for his single, Wonderful.

Dark Mean

Dark Mean is a band that is a perfect example of the quote, "You Can't Always Judge a Book by it's Cover." If you did that with this band you would think that Dark Mean was a simple band, however when you listen to their music you will find they are the exact opposite.

Oberhofer

Here is a band that is the literal definition of indie. They are currently unsigned, but they have a lot of potential to get big in the near future. You may recognize o0Oo0Oo from the recent sobe life water commercials. Their sound is somewhat similar to a modest mouse/band of horses. I recommend listening to o0Oo0Oo and Landline.
