Surfer Blood

Like Pavement? Vampire Weekend? Built to Spill? Than Surfer Blood is for you. They are a fun alternative rock band that are also great... yes that is the correct word, Great! Their album Astro Cast is a fun album to listen to. They definitely have a 90's rock feel to them but that just makes them sound even more appealing.

Now obviously they have a surfer vibe to their songs. Now you might be wondering what a surfer vibe is in music. Now you might be wondering why I have started every sentence in this paragraph with "Now." Now I am wondering the same thing.

A surfer vibe is a fun sounding, somewhat distortion, small sense of reggae feel to it, harmonious tones and singing. Overall it's just basically awesome.

Song to listen to:
Swim
Harmonix
Floating Vibes
Take It Easy
Catholic Pagans

The Antlers

Bands that make you think. The Antlers fit perfectly under this. Lyricist and lead singer Peter Silberman is a lyrical genius. He does a great job at finding the perfect lyrics to put you in that reflective and pondering mood. His voice is "different" but it fits perfectly with the primarily quiet and simple melodies.

Song to Listen To:
Bear
Two
Wake
In the Attic
Kettering

Frightened Rabbit

Frightened Rabbit is an Indie Rock band originating from Scotland formed in 2003. They are known for there light rock style and the distinct voice of lead singer and founder, Scott Hutchinson. The distinction in his voice not only comes from the fact that he has a Scottish accent, but in the amount of feeling you can clearly hear in Hutchinson's voice. Simply put, it is pure art.

2 Bands ALL Should Know

Ok so it has come to my attention that I should have put these two bands up here earlier because well I thought they had more notice than they really do. These two bands are Needtobreathe and My Morning Jacket.

Needtobreathe:

A southern/christian rock band that is incredibly good. So good in fact, that Taylor Swift chose them of all people to open for her in her new tour. Now I know that the fact that they are a christian rock band some people will automatically dismiss them but those people are missing out. They aren't like most and don't PREACH in every song, they rarely do. Seriously if you like good music check them out. They have a song featured in the movie Employee of the Month with Dane Cook and Jessica Simpson.

Songs to listen to:
Shine On (Employee of the Month)
Don't Wait for Daylight
More Time
The Outsiders
You Are Here
The Heat

And many others

My Morning Jacket:
A true modern day rock band. this band knows how to be chill and psychedelic and how to rock hard. Jim Jame's voice is very very unique and very very good. Somehow still unknown to a ton of people even after having an entire American Dad episode dedicated to them. I have personally seen this band live and it was great, they really know how to put on a show. They talk to the crowd a bit but mostly they just play great music. Jim James, also known as Yim Yames, was one of the people to play the character Bob Dylan in the movie "I'm Not There." his voice is why.

Songs I recommend
One Big Holiday (Watch the video on youtube for when they performed it on Conan O'Brien)
Off The Record
I'm Amazed
Anytime
Librarian
Thank You Too
Touch Me I'm Gonna Scream (pt.1 and pt.2)

Animal Liberation Orchestra

These guys are good and more importantly for them they have good... great connections. The keyboardist for Animal Liberation orchestra (ALO) went to college with the one and only Jack Johnson. They became friends and because of that Johnson put them on his record deal. Their style is unique but I would put them under a bluesy/funk/ well a Jam band.

ALO has a music style that you can just listen to their music and love every song and just jam out to them playing air guitar, air drums, or sing into a fake microphone. They are a great band to listen to on the beach or outside on a sunny summer day while cooking up some BBQ or just grill.

Overall, the one thing you should get from this is that you NEED to listen to Animal Liberation Orchestra.

Songs to listen to:
Maria
Monday
Try
Plastic Bubble (A very fun song)
Lady Loop

Animal Collective

This band is hard to describe because they are not one specific genre. They are like Psych/Folk/Alternative but each song is very different from the next. They own their own record label which they used to host their music. Their vocals have a beach boys feel to it but the music is way more well like I said before Psych/Alternative with a definite folk vibe to it. They are gaining some popularity from their newest album which is by far the poppiest and it is great. With catchy electronics and vocals its hard to stop listening to this band.

Songs to listen to:
My Girls
Grass
The Purple Bottle
Did You See The Words
Brother Sport

Brandon Flowers

A little behind in posting the solo album of Brandon Flowers Flamingo. The album was released a little over 3 months ago and is fantastic! You can clearly tell that it is solo work from the front-man of The Killers because of his distinct voice, but their is a difference in the music. The best way to tell the difference is to listen to it yourself.

Honestly all the songs are great, but if I had to pick a few they would include:
Only the Young
Crossfire
Hard Enough
Jilted Lovers and Broken Hearts

Also, on November 30 The Killers released their Christmas single for this year "Boots."

Basement Birds

Do you like Wilco? If so, the Basement Birds are perfect for you. They are an Indie Band out of Australia that actually cites Wilco as one of their biggest influences. Basement Birds are another highly unknown band that are slowly gaining recognition. The dual use of vocals in some songs gives off a very folk vibe, but for most songs they combine the folk sound with a slower alternative sound. They definitely have the potential to turn a few heads in the near future and get the amount of recognition that they deserve.

Recommended songs:
Not the One
Bus Stop
Waiting for You

Trampled by Turtles

Trampled by Turtles are a band from Minnesota that fit under the bluegrass and/or folk genre. This is the first band that we have posted that is considered bluegrass, and it is different from any that we have posted thus far, but the catchy use of instruments including a banjo, a mandolin, and a fiddle drew me in. Also, the vocals come from four different members of the band, giving each song something new to offer and and a different sound from each other song.

Recommended tracks:
Wait So Long
Codeine
Never Again

NetherFriends

Super-Catchy-Fun Band!

Oh and did i mention HIGHLY unknown!

So far with just an EP and 1 album under their sleeves this band is already great and I am super excited to see what they can continue to do. With music similar to Oberhofer and Cloud Nothings this band will get you hooked immediately once you start listening to them. Slightly rough recordings of catchy songs give this band a unique vibe and it works great for them.

I for one would like to personally Thank Chicago for letting bands like this get together.

Songs to listen to:
Friends With Lofts
Mom Cop
Don't Invite Me
Washed Up 80's TV Star
More Than Friends Who Like Good Music
Yoni

Ra Ra Riot

Ra Ra Riot is an Indie Rock Band from Syracuse, New York. Their music is very similar to that of The Shins and Vampire Weekend. This band is a bit unknown but will soon be as recognizable as the two bands mentioned above. So seriously check these guys out. They know what they are doing and they know how to do it good. Their debut album The Rhumb Line was amazing and their follow-up album was just as good I highly recommend you listening to both

Songs to listen to:
Can You Tell
Boy
Too Dramatic
Shadowcasting
Oh, La
Ghost Under Rocks

Paper Tongues

Ok so this is one of those time where I have realized I have made a mistake. I had no idea I never put these guys in the blog before, and for that I am sorry, to all of you and to this band.

Now that that is over we can get to this. LISTEN TO THIS BAND!!!
Paper Tongues formed in North Carolina while Aswan North and a few of his buds that would sing for charity decided to create a band and man was that a great decision. It took awhile but they all eventually decided it was the right idea to leave what they had behind to form this band. They ran into Randy Jackson(yes that Randy Jackson) at a hotel after a showcase and introduced themselves and told him about their band. 2 hours later he called them and signed them and that was the birth of Paper Tongues.

Paper Tongues is gradually gaining a larger fan base and are getting bigger and better shows. They are a very original band and their songs are not all the same. They do all share one common factor and that is that they are all original and great. Aswan North, the frontman, has an incredible voice that I have been able to see live in the front row and man it is something special. The vibe this band gives off live is amazing especially in their song Get Higher. Aswan gets the crowd involved and I promise you would love them in concert so if you get the chance DO IT!!

Their music is a combination of hip hop/rock/electronica. They found a way to perfectly blend these three very different genres and make songs that immediately you think to yourself, "Wow, this band is something special...something that the world needs to have more of." Paper Tongues have the ability and the talent to become one of the biggest bands of our generation and they would be one of the few that I would be proud of to have our generations name. Please help them by spreading their name to all of your friends.

Songs I recommend
Trinity
Ride To California
Get Higher
Rich and Poor
What If

Actually just listen to their entire album it's all great.

Brooks Hubbard

Ok so this guy will be the next Jack Johnson, Jason Mraz, John Mayer. There isn't much else to say but that if you like any of those 3, which most people do, you will enjoy Hubbard's smooth and fun guitar riffs and lyrics.

I couldn't find anywhere to link to his music to listen to it so, well here is a link to download his album for free. I highly recommend downloading it and at least listening to Burn and Happy.

Cloud Nothings

So sometimes I am even shocked by the underground stuff I can find, this is one of those times. Cloud Nothings is very similar to the band Oberhofer in style and in how they both should and will soon be known to all. They have a rough sound because they are unsigned and it works beautifully. Their catchy beats and and riffs plus great lyrics hook you immediately. If you like bands such as Neon Trees, The Temper Trap, and well any other band like them with catchy songs that sound like they could and usually do end up being on commercials. Cloud Nothings is for you!!!!

Plus props to them because they are from my home state Cleveland, Ohio

Songs I recommend:
Didn't You - Listen to this and you will be immediately hooked and know what i mean
Hey Cool Kid
Can't Stay Awake
Leave You Forever

Mofro and Chiddy Bang

This post will consist of two bands not at all alike.

Mofro

Mofro brings something to this blog that is new and good. BLUES! And man do they do it good. Mofro is very soulful and have a southern touch to their bluesy music. They also go by another name, JJ Grey & Mofro, mainly because JJ Grey is the leader of the band.

Songs I recommend:
Lochloosa
Fireflies
Dirtfloorcracker
That Boy
Ten Thousand Islands

Chiddy Bang

I apologize for not putting this band on here earlier. I have known about them for months now and never really thought about putting them on here, and I'm not quite sure why. But, they are gaining recognition and popularity so rapidly I decided it would be best to put them up here while they are still unknown to some. Chiddy Bang is a hip hop group with loads of talent. They released their first album this year which featured song Opposite of Adults, which for obvious reasons, samples Kids by MGMT. They have recently remixed popular song Fuck You by Cee Lo Green.

Songs I recommend
Opposite of Adults
The Fuck You Remix
Fresh Like Us
All Things Go
Ice Cream Man
On Our Way

Cover Post

So in this post I am going to be posting links to listen to great professional covers of already great songs. Most of the time covers ruin songs but not these ones. The first is the original, second is the cover.

This is just a few, if you guys like this comment and I'll do more.

G. Love

Like Jack Johnson? Mat Kearney? Citizen Cope? Ben Harper? Bob Dylan? Everlast? If you answered yes to any of those G. Love is for you.

G. Love is the lead singer to the band G. Love & Special Sauce but he also has a solo album where he collaborates with Jack Johnson. He is one of the few people who knows how to incorporate hip-hop sounds with acoustic melodies. His current solo album Lemonade is amazing.

Songs I recommend:
Rainbow
Breakin' Up
Hot Cookin'
Beautiful
Free
Sneakster

Newton Faulkner

This guy is on his way to being huge and I am helping you catch onto him before he gets huge. Newton has been traveling with acts such as Paolo Nutini and John Mayer. He had a song featured on the recent hit movie, "She's Outta My League." That song was titled, "Dream Catch Me." It is on his album, "Hand Built By Robots." Seriously this guy will be mainstream soon, so catch on now.

Songs I Recommend:

Dream Catch Me
Gone in the Morning
Teardrop
People Should Smile More

The Low Anthem and The Format

The Low Anthem

The Low Anthem is quite the indie band. The folk band from Rhode Island really knows how to get the job done. They are smooth and quiet but very good. The meanings in their songs are really deep and make you think. So if you are in the mood to think and ponder, this band will help you in the process.

Songs I recommend:
Charlie Darwin
To Ohio
Ticket Taker
The Horizon is a Beltway.

The Format

This is definitely a band I should have put on here a lot earlier, and for that I apologize. First, some bad news, The Format is no longer a band. The good news, you can still enjoy their great music. They were indie pop and very good. Unfortunately, they never got the recognition they deserved but damn did they deserve it.

Songs I recommend:
The First Single
On Your Porch
A Save Situation
Sore Thumb

Barcelona

Barcelona is an alternative rock band from Seattle and they are very very good. From harmonious choruses on top of piano-based music they are very calming to listen to. They list U2, Death Cab for Cutie, and Coldplay as influences just to give you an idea on their sound.

Recommended songs:

Come Back When You Can
Please Don't Go
It's About Time
Falling Out of Trees
Stars.

Don't limit yourself to just these songs though

Great Lake Swimmers

Fast. Loud. Crazy. All words that cannot be used properly to describe the band Great Lake Swimmers.

This band is slow but still very good, like an Iron and Wine type of band.

Their songs are still catchy and just allow you to relax and ponder on your life.

Songs I recommend.

Moving Pictures Silent Films
Your Rocky Spine
Where in the World Are You
Stealing Tomorrow

But don't just limit yourself to these

Wow, this is the perfect band to listen to with the windows down and a sunny day with about 70 degree temperature. They are a great feel-good music band to listen to. They are very fun and very good. So listen to their music and get it and listen to it now!!!

Songs I recommend

Longwave and American Bang

Longwave

Longwave is a band that everybody needs to listen to at least once. They are relaxing but not boring, it is a perfect blend of music. They have toured with The Strokes and The Vines, but are not similar in music. They should be on the radio and in the ears of all american's but unfortunately I don't see their future being huge, which is a good thing in a way.

Songs I recommend:

Tidal Wave
Strangest Things
Sirens In The Deep Sea
No Direction
Secrets Are Sinister

American Bang

I posted this band at the end of the Post To Save A Life but I decided they need to be mentioned again. American Bang is friends with another great and amazing band, Paper Tongues. (If you don't know this band listen to them now!!!!) American Bang is more of a Southern Rock band and their sound is very unique. It sounds similar to early Kings of Leon and Needtobreathe. I really like this band and expect them to get big soon. So listen soon and a lot.

Songs I recommend:

Wild and Young (favorite)
Whiskey Walk
She Don't Cry No More
Rewind
All We Know.

Actually just listen to their debut self-titled album.

Future of Forestry

Future of Forestry is the definition of indie. This band is far from today's mainstream music and their music and lyrics are very deep. This band is very hard to put into words because when listening to their music you just get into that mode where you drown out everything but the song and just think, it's a wonderful feeling.

For songs that I recommend, there really isn't just a couple I would suggest because they are all so good in their own way and all make you think. Just great.

http://www.futureofforestry.com/ (here you can check out any of their albums and listen to every song of theirs and read the lyrics.)

Innerpartysystem

Like Shiny Toy Guns and 3OH!3? Than you will really like Innerpartysystem.

Innerpartysystem is an electronic rock band and they are very good.

Since their self-titled album debut in 2008 they have been touring with bands like the Shiny Toy Guns and Linkin Park and have been drawing crowds at festivals in the US and UK.

This band is very good, but some people won't agree, those people are missing out.

Songs to listen to:
Don't Stop (Personal Favorite)
Last Night in Brooklyn
Die Tonight Live Forever
Everyone is the Same

They have also done some incredible remixes of Katy Perry and 3OH!3 songs that i highly recommend if you are a fan or either of them and/or remixes.

Moke and The Coronas

Moke

Moke is getting huge in the UK right now performing at huge festivals with huge mainstream bands, and boy do they deserve it. The lead singer sounds similar to the lead singer in The Editors in some songs, but the music is more similar to Athlete. This band, like most bands that find fame in the UK, will make it's way to America's raidio's and become the next big thing.

Songs to listen to:
Here Comes the Summer
Last Chance
This Plan
Switch

The Coronas

Talk about a story. This band originated when the members were only 15! They have had to change their name twice to finally get to their current name, The Coronas. This band is huge in Ireland, but they are not an Irish band...but I do like those bands too. This band definitely has potential to reach a huge amount of success here in the US so start listening now!

Songs to listen to:
San Diego Song
Heroes or Ghosts
Listen Dear
Someone Else's Hands (new)

Thursday, September 2, 2010

Cameron Bedell

Ok so this is a little change in pace Cameron Bedell is more of an R&B/Hip-Hop/Pop/Acoustic type of musician. I would relate him to Bruno Mars and Mike Posner. He is really good and I recommend listening to him immediately because sooner than later the mainstream radio systems in America will get a hold of his music and overplay they hell out of him.

Songs to listen to:
Chasing Your Love
Sweetest Thing
Every Hour

Seriously jump on this fast before it is too late.

The Morning After Pre-View

With less then a week until the release of second mini-album The Morning After by James, a pre-view of 5 new songs has been released. The upbeat tone from The Night Before is followed by a darker, slower paced, and "depressing" side of James in The Morning After. My personal favorite of the 5 is Kaleidoscope, but all of them are fantastic and like most James songs they will make you think.

Alex Lambert

Ok so I am going to admit to a guilty pleasure. I watch American Idol, but not for the frontrunners. I mean obviously they have talent, but what I watch it for is for the talent that goes unnoticed. For example a few years ago a guy named, Jason Castro. Well this year a guy named Alex Lambert got voted off, obviously way too early than he should have been, but I immediately knew this kid had a future. He is now on a reality show called, "If I Can Dream." The only place I can find to watch it is Hulu.com

Well anyway Alex shouldn't have gotten voted off and here is why.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDq9JZtWds0 (this one is live and proves the kid is good)

The Constellations and Empire Of The Sun

The Constellations

This band's album "Southern Gothic" really had a Black Keys feel to it. They are alt. Rock but they completely have a blues-ish vibe to them. I really enjoyed it. This band is very one sided though, because you will either love or hate them, there really is no in between. Some songs are more up beat than others but overall the album was great and I have been listening to them nonstop!

Songs to listen to:
Felicia - This song is one of their most upbeat songs and is the song that drew me to them.
On My Way Up- This song is slower and is just the lead singer and a piano, definitely has a blues feel to it but by far one of my favorites.
We're Here To Save The Day - this song has a chorus sung by kids and the song is really good, but I know some will hate it haha.
Love Is A Murder- This will probably be the most liked song on the album, it has less blues feel to it and more alt rock.

Empire Of The Sun

Ok this is what you have been waiting for. A band that sounds just like....MGMT! Empire of The Sun is at the state MGMT was when they released Kids, Time To Pretend, and Electric Feel... when nobody knew who they were! This is where Empire of the Sun is and they are easily making songs to that high of level. Their songs, "We Are The People" and "Walking On A Dream" are amazing. This band is legit and has a little Kooks in them too. So picture MGMT and The Kooks having a kid and that is this band. Seriously listen!

Between The Trees & AM Taxi

Ok so 100% we are back our busy schedules are no longer as busy and we are back to it. To prove it take a look at theses two bands.

Between The Trees:
This band has been around since 2007 and are about to be huge. If you like bands such as O.A.R and Switchfoot this band is 100% for you! There latest album, "Spain," is their statement to the world that they are for real. Their songs We Can Try and Spain are amazing. I am telling you this band will make you say, "How is this band not outrageously huge right now?"

Jump on their bandwagon before it is too late!

AM Taxi

Do you like Neon Trees? How about Paper Tongues? New Politics? If so, this band is completely for you. By the way if you don't know the three bands listed before LISTEN TO THEM!

Am Taxi is a band that almost every one of their songs is good. You can listen through the album all the way through without switching songs. Trust me I have the WORST Music ADD and I was able to listen through their album, "We Don't Stand A Chance," all the way through... so you can too! Listen to Charissa and The Mistake they will get you hooked onto this band.

Once again I promise we are back.

Red Light Company

Red Light Company is an alternative/indie band out of London formed in 2007. Upon first listening they give off an Arcade Fire vibe, specifically from lead singer Richard Frenneaux. However after hearing several songs from Red Light Company you begin to hear similarities to U2, Oberhofer, Athlete, and Stellastarr*. They have only released one album to date, but they have released 5 singles. Songs to listen to are Arts & Crafts, With Lights Out, and Meccano.

Sorry it has been such a long time in between posts. We have both been extremely busy, but intend to add several posts within the next few days of new bands we have found.

Thursday, June 24, 2010

Matt Pond PA

Matt Pond PA is very originial and very likable. If you like bands like Rogue Wave and Sea Wolf you will enjoy this band. They have gained their little recognition after their debut CD, Deer Apartments, won CDNow's Unheard competition. They have had 2 songs featured on the O.C.'s soundtrack, cover of Oasis's Champagne Supernova and Neutral Milk Hotel's Aeroplane Over The Sea.

I recommend listening to Halloween, So Much Trouble, New Hampshire, Champagne Supernova, Aeroplane Over the Sea and Several Arrows Later.

Wednesday, June 23, 2010

The Bowerbirds

The Bowerbirds are a Folk/Indie band out of Raleigh, North Carolina formed in 2006. What sets them apart from other bands are the use of "different" instruments(accordion, tamborine, and violin) mixed with the contrasting vocals from both Phil Moore and Beth Tacular. The sound and vibe they give is eerily similar to that of Bon Iver. Almost all of there songs are unheard of and the best would include: Dark Horse, Human Hands, and Slow Down. Lovin's' for Fools is their most notable song and was actually only performed live with Bon Iver.

Thursday, June 17, 2010

Reggae

Ok so this in this post I will be listing some bands that sound a lot like the great (and resurrecting) Sublime. If you like sublime and a band that was listed earlier in a previous post (Dirty Heads), you will enjoy all of these bands. I won't give a summary of each band just the name, a link to listen, and a few songs to specifically listen to.

Ballyhoo!
listen to Cali Girl, Bad Credit, Cervesa, The Quest

Staylefish
listen to Next Wave to Paradise, Deja Vu, Green Black & Gold

The B Foundation
listen to Be Alright, Spliffed, Say it in Sin

Passafire
listen to Submersible, Ghost Man, Divide, Kilo

Sorry for the long time in between the last two posts we have been busy but are back in full gear I promise.

Eminem - Recovery

Ok so this morning/last night at midnight a leak of eminem's new album recovery leaked. Oh, and yes it is amazing. No Love is an instant and obvious favorite mainly because it has Lil Wayne on it. Another song that is on the low-key for now is Love the Way you Lie and it features Rhianna. Either way this album is very very good and I recommend downloading the leak and then BUYING the album when it is released June 22.

I won't post a download link for it but find it yourself, it isn't hard

2) Tomorrow - James
3) Such Great Heights - The Postal Service
4) My Coco - Stellastarr*
5) Swim - Jack's Mannequin
6) Friday I'm in Love - The Cure
7) Blood Bank - Bon Iver
8) Dry the Rain - The Beta Band
9) Shine - James
10) You Get What You Give - New Radicals

Crash Kings

Like Ben Folds? Like The White Stripes? Like modern day rock? If you answered yes to one of those questions you will LOVE Crash Kings. This band has done what nobody has done before. They created a genre of music between Ben Folds and The White Stripes. It's so original that is amazing. Seriously haven't stopped listening to them. They created a moder-day rock makeover of My Doorbell by The White Stripes with their single, Mountain Man. 14 Arms is the song that reminds me most of Ben Folds and then their single, You Got Me, is again, a lot like The White Stripes. Check this band

Pictures and Sound

If you liked Blue Merle you will love this band. Luke Reynolds, the lead singer for Blue Merle, is also the lead singer for this band and he also plays multiple instruments. At first this band's music might sound simple but it really is deep. If you enjoyed Burning in the Sun by Blue Merle you will enjoy their self-titled album as it has a more up-tempo feel to it. I recommend Forever to Reach, The Last Ocean, Everything Leaves a Mark, It's You, Big Screen, actually just listen to them all.

Stellastarr*

Stellastarr* was formed in 2000 in New York City. They are relatively unheard of despite having been around for a full decade. The vocals are what set them apart from other bands, they use both a male and female singer that compliment each other quite well. Shawn Christensen shows amazing control in his singing. He is a weird singer, but that is a complete compliment, it is because of his voice that makes me love this band so much. They fall under the indie genre, but also fit into post-punk revival genre with similarities to initial punk bands such as The Cure and/or The Clash. Stellastarr* is a very original band in that no one song is the same as another. Each song has its own features and sometimes even fits a whole new genre, in other words you get a different piece to the Stellastarr* puzzle with each song.

My Coco is their biggest "must listen to" song, and is one of my personal top 5 favorite songs of all time. My Coco will lure you in with it's opening quiet and peaceful melody, but then hit you within a minute when it picks up. Over a minute long break in the song with instrumentals, including a guitar solo, and then the song finishes strong with amazing lyrics and pure genius vocals. Anyways thats enough about My Coco because Stellastarr* do have other songs that are nearly as good.

I hope that Stellastarr* continues with the great music they have been putting out and I look forward to what new piece to the puzzle that their next album brings.

Recommended Songs:
My Coco
Move On
Sonja Cries
A Million Reasons
The Pulp Song

The Beta Band

The Beta Band is a largely unheard of band that began in 1996 and came to an end in 2004. The few that have heard of The Beta Band most likely heard it mentioned in the film High Fidelity followed by the playing of Dry the Rain. Dry the Rain is a very long and drawn out song filled with sections of instrumentals (mainly the trumpet) throughout that compliment lead singer Steve Mason's voice very well. This song is simply one that can't be hated by anyone whether it fits into your style of music or not. While they have no comparison to Dry the Rain, both Assessments and To You Alone are definitely worthy of a listen or two.

Blue Merle

Blue Merle is a band that SHOULD have been famous. Based off the musical talents of Luke Reynolds, lead vocals, this band created some of my favorite songs. Luke Reynolds voice has been compared to Dave Matthews and Chris Martin, Coldplay. I agree with the later by a ton! His voice reminds me of Martin by a crazy amount. One of my favorite songs of theirs, Burning in the Sun, has a ukulele in it and it just has that summer vibe feel. My second favorite, Every Ship Must Sail Away, has been used in hit TV shows and it has more of that slow, Coldplay sound to it.

Either way check out what this band created and listen to Burning in the Sun, Every Ship Must Sail Away, and their incredible cover of Psycho Killer at the least!

Paul Wright

Paul Wright will remind you greatly of a "Jack Johnson." His soulfulness along with his acoustic melodies Paul Wright will blow you away. I recommend listening to Pacific Beach, La Jolla, Lost, Lately, 5th and Broadway, and Sunset Cliffs. However, there are a lot more great ones, those are just my personal favorites. Enjoy this relaxing music.

Athlete

I am surprised that this band hasn't hit it bug yet. They have multiple albums and multiple singles that you will recognize, but nobody knows them by their name. Athlete is an indie rock band that formed in 1999 in England. Their music is a mixture of indie rock and electronica. They sound a lot like the "English" Killers. I recommend listening to singles; Wires, You Got The Style, Superhuman Touch (The most "Killers-ish" song).

Shout Out Louds

Shout Out Louds is an indie band formed in 2001 out of Stockholm, Sweden. They have released 3 albums Howl Howl Gaff Gaff, Our Ill Wills, and most recently Work. They are most known for their eerie similarities to The Cure specifically the song Tonight I Have To Leave It in comparison to The Cure's In Between Days. While all of their songs are worth a listen, I highly recommend listening to Tonight I Have To Leave It, You Are Dreaming, Impossible, and Walls.

Stray Palace

If you are an Indie fan this is huge news for you!!! This band, like Oberhofer, is about to be huge and nobody knows about them. The only way to listen to their music is on their myspace or if you but their EP from iTunes, thats it. No youtube, no grooveshark, no last.fm. It's just the EP and their Myspace. Stray Palace is a side project by Black Lab's Paul Durham. The first released album was Stray Palace EP in 2009, and represents "an attempt to weld together the funk of American indie dance-rock and the epic vistas of British new wave.

If you like U2, MGMT, Phoenix, Spoon than you will love this band.

I HIGHLY recommend listening and buying their EP. This band will be huge soon!

Unfortunately, my favorite from their EP, Free, is not available for preview on their myspace, giving you more of a reason to buy the EP. Seriously buy it! Now!

Band of Horses - Infinite Arms

Band of Horses released their new album Infinite Arms one week ago today. It is notably different from their previous two albums, however it still offers the same feelings given from previous albums. It s definitely worth a listen, specifically: Infinite Arms, Evening Kitchen, and Dilly.

Stars of Track and Field

Stars of Track and Field is a great band to listen to. Their latest cd, A Time for Lions, is one of my personal favorites. You can here some of their influences in the album such as; The Beatles and Pink Floyd. The name of the band is in reference to the Belle and Sebastian of the same name. I highly recommend listening to a few songs on A Time for Lions. Racing Lights, End of All Time, In Bright Fire, and The Breaking of Waves at least.
