Matt Hires

Matt Hires is going to be the next big thing. He has a voice made for recording and is a very talented guitarist. Oh and he is ridiculously good at being original in a genre of music that is quickly taking over the world.

If you are a fan of Matt Kearney, Matt Nathanson, and any other artist in that genre, or if you are a closet fan of theirs and are looking for an underground version of them that are just as good than Matt Hires is 100% for you.

He has a cover of MGMT's "Kids" and he does this great song justice and makes it look easy.

He has some ridiculous talent and his voice has a little hint of John Mayer - not completely but just enough to make his voice that in demand - and some of Kevin Calaba from Stars of Track and Field. It's a perfect combo and I have been listening to him nonstop.

Songs I Recommend:
Honey, Let Me Sing You A Song - one of his most upbeat - the perfect radio song
You Are The One
Out of the Dark
Tangled Web - mellow but incredibly thought provoking. maybe my favorite
O Sunrise - a very powerful chorus, makes the song great
Pick Me Up - another upbeat song
Turn The Page - the harmonies in this song are haunting.

Dirty Sweet

Have you been searching for and never been able to find the next Black Crowes? How about just a band whose music just has that special kick to it where you feel like the song actually has feeling, let alone badass. If so Dirty Sweet is for you.

It is hard to describe this band because words don't do their music justice, however, I am going to try and give it a shot.

Do you ever get that feeling that you were born in the wrong decade? That you are more suited for the 70s. You ask yourself multiple without ever having an answer, "When I have kids what band will they be talking about when they say, 'You are lucky mom/dad you actually had good music to listen to when you were growing up.'." Well Dirty Sweet very well could be that band. Every single one of their songs is great and has a that rough and cool biker bar vibe to it... just badass.

Mixing powerful guitar chords, a steady up-tempo beat, and a great classic rock voice, Dirty Sweet rocks it every song. If you are looking for a band that consistently brings you cool rock songs and never disappoints than Dirty Sweet is for you.

Songs I Recommend:
Man's Ruin
Long Line Down - maybe my favorite, great guitar
You've Been Warned
Baby Come Home - probably the coolest of them all
Born To Bleed - ok this one is pretty cool too

The Zolas

Like I promised we were going to introduce you all to a band that in the last few months has become a personal favorite. Now I am sure that most of you have realized that since we have been doing this thing, nearing our third year, the music scene has been gradually changing and indie/alternative rock has been gradually gaining popularity and is starting to become a big deal! However, I know that some people are going to be upset that they can't have this music to themselves anymore, well I really don't want that to happen so I plan on helping you out. I want to give you guys some underground music that is great and can still be YOURS and YOURS ALONE!

So we begin with The Zolas. Their music is similar to Crash Kings in that they create their melodies with piano and incorporate harmonies in multiple songs. The combination of those two equates a wonderful, playful, calming sound.

In their newest album Tic Toc Tic they have a number of musically gifted songs with super catchy choruses.

Basically what I am trying to get across to you guys about this band is if you are a fan of the piano and harmonies used in a pop/alternative way than The Zolas are for you!

Songs I Recommend:
You're Too Cool - This song's chorus is one of my all time favorites.
The Great Collapse - The song is amazing and the lyrics are great too.
Marlaina Kamikaze
No Talking
Queen of Relax

Upcoming Plans

We will soon be working with our great friend Jordan who is a musical guru in hip hop. He knows everything about it and knows who the next big thing will be before anyone else. Some examples of artists he found include Drake, Asher Roth, Slaughterhouse, Chiddy Bang, and many more. So yeah, he is pretty good at it. We will add a separate page to the blog dedicated just to hip hop. We hope to expand our audience as well as keep our old one! One thing is for sure Music Doctors will not change, me and cole will still be bringing you the most up to date alternative and indie bands that we love and that deserve your attention. We are very excited about this and we hope you are too!

Rival Sons

This is for all you Rockers out there who are sick and tired of pop, rap, alternative, screamo, and indie music. The few who are looking to rock out and have a good time. This post is for you.

Rival Sons is here to bring back the sound of the 70s. Music that screams I want to get drunk, go crazy, have a great night, and wake up the next morning not remembering a thing.

Picture a movie where three college guys decide to drop out and make a band to travel the world. Imagine a scene where the guys finally catch a break and there is no dialogue and you just see bits of pieces of them driving around during the day laughing and going to all of these crazy parties and it looks like fun and throughout the entire scene you just here this rockin music that makes you tap your foot. 90% chance that one of Rival Sons songs will be played in a scene just like this.

Their music makes you just want to forget about everything for one night and just have fun. You deserve that just as much as this band deserves to be the soundtrack for your night.

They will have a lot of songs that people will call their summer anthem, and great timing because they just released their second album, Pressure & Time. Put this album on repeat and go on a road trip you won't regret it.

This band is getting notice from iTunes and Rolling Stone and it is only a matter of time before you miss the bandwagon.

Songs I Recommend:
Young Love - My Favorite
Only One - a bit slower but great
Pressure and Time
All Over The Road
Get Mine - Instant hit
Burn Down Los Angeles - a fun song
Face of Light - acoustic and amazing

Indigo Wild

Well for all of you indie folks out there who love good music that is unheard of but full of potential, this band is for you. From my hometown, Columbus, Ohio, Indigo Wild has that special sound. Immediately after listening to this band you can tell they are well on their way to making it in this world.

With hypnotizing melodies, haunting vocals, and meaningful lyrics, this band is sure to make you ponder life. From listening to their music you can tell that this group of guys just want to live life having fun and making music, and they have the talent to do so.

Indigo Wild plays small gigs in some pretty cool spots. Places where you can just sit down and hang with your friends, the lights are dim, and you can just sit and listen to some damn good music. Their sound is a mellow indie/folk one. That sentence alone will attract some people to listen to them and to those people, you will not be disappointed.

One last thing I want to say before I post my song recommendations and whatnot is that I am giving you guys the opportunity to catch these guys before they make it, before there even is a bandwagon. Right now you can download their demo off of Last.FM for free, so even if this whole article hasn't seemed all that interesting to you (which if that's the case, screw you man!) download it and take a listen. Give this band a chance, you won't regret it.

Songs I Recommend:
Rowboats - possibly my favorite
On The Hill - really good
Cradle Lake
Steady Eye - my second favorite

Arkells

Arkells has successfully combined 2 genres together that I have been searching for for a very long time, Southern Rock and Indie Rock. Verdict = AMAZING!

They have only released one album back in 2008 and Jackson Square has already brought them far for a band in its early stages. They have toured with a band that everyone has heard of Tokyo Police Club. They are on their way to gaining frequent radio play.

They perfectly create catchy, indie rock guitar hooks and vocals with a feeling of soul and southern rock behind it. So not only are their songs catchy, but they also carry a punch with them to get your blood pumping and lets you actually "feel" the song. It's a wonderful feeling, almost sublime(not the band.)

Their songwriting abilities are superb as there is no boring song on this album. You can listen to it in its entirety and want more, a difficult feat to accomplish.

I cannot wait to see where these guys go in the next couple of years because they will be making a name for themselves quickly!

Songs I Recommend:
Oh, The Boss Is Coming - instant hit
Deadlines - one of my favorites
Pullin Punches
Abigail
I'm Not The Sun - a bit more mellow, but top notch for sure
John Lennon - very catchy!!

Two Hours Traffic

I'm going to make this short, I am done with exams so now both of us are on summer break so be expecting frequent updates from now on!

Two Hours Traffic is a band that is very radio friendly, they just need some exposure, and I hope that we can help them gain just that. Their music is upbeat and fun. It is great driving music because it has that "Stroke"-ish sound and the vocals are original and great! Every song on their album, Litle Jabs, is perfect to play if you and your friends are hanging out and looking to listen to music while having a great time. Whether that great time is going on a road trip, driving around to get lost, or just sitting around and telling stories this music is perfect background music for almost every occasion.

In September of '10 they released their 3rd album, Territory, and it received little attention and that confuses me. They continued their charm of fun, kick-back music style and also combined it with a more pop style with harmonies on some songs and it worked perfectly. It has some songs with a "Slower" side to them but nothing drastically slow. I love every minute of it.

Once again I just want to emphasize how fun this band is and that with a little bit of attention and notoriety this band will be played everywhere on radios, tvs, and in movies. When that day happens I will be here saying I told you so and congratulating the band on an achieved success that will be very much deserved.

Songs I Recommend:
Jezebel
Stuck For The Summer
Territory
Drop Alcohol - one of the more mellow songs
Noisemaker
Sure Can Start

Walk the Moon

First of all, we are very sorry that we have not posted in a long two weeks. We have been very busy, but this does not mean we have not found new bands, it simply means we haven't had time to post them on here. However, we have a whole plethora of new bands that we will be adding for the next few weeks, so be ready for some brand new and fantastic bands.

Walk the Moon is a quartet from our Cincinnati, Ohio. They released the album I Want! I Want! over 6 months ago and it is nothing short of pure genius. It features 11 songs, of the most known would be Anna Sun and I Can Lift a Car. The actual singing reminds me of Justin Vernon, but the music tells me that they are a lighter version of The Limousines. Seems strange, but the result is a very beautiful and unique sound that no band I know combines as well.

Dance music. Walk the Moon fits this description perfectly. If you don't believe me just watch this video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eW7f54tVRmQ , than tell me otherwise. They are fun, catchy, upbeat, and overall easy to dance to. Yet, at the same time you can feel the emotion put into every song. These four are going places and like us, you had better jump on the band wagon now. I will have the privilege of seeing them live in the near future and I honestly am stoked!!! From what I hear and have watched on youtube, they are a magnificent live band, so see them if they play anywhere near you and join the frenzy.

Recommended songs:
Anna Sun
Lisa Baby
I Want! I Want!
I Can Lift a Car

ROOTDOWN

If you have been a fan of ours since the beginning or if you have looked at every post here you may or may not recognize the name of an artist we put on here over a year ago, Paul Wright. In that post we compared him to a Jack Johnson type of artist. A solo act with an acoustic guitar that talked about what he felt with a reggae vibe and just loved life. HE continues that vibe with his band ROOTDOWN.

ROOTDOWN just released their new album, Tidal Wave, about 2 weeks ago and it is nothing but amazing. They add a little more of a pop/hip hop/alternative vibe to it and it works. A perfect combination of pop, hip hop, alternative and reggae.

Every song is catchy and if just 1 of them catches radio play, this band will take off like NASA. Seriously, they have that much potential. Similar to a Dirty Heads this band produces songs that are perfect to listen in the summer, which is perfect timing.

I have been a fan of Wright and Rootdown for a while now and am finally getting some free time to give them their due on this blog because they sure as hell deserve it. I am going to do my best to help them get some radio play because they need to be heard by all.

Songs I Recommend:
All I Wanna Do
Good Day
Storm Warning - lovin this song
Taking Over Me
Roots - a great song
Don't Walk Away
H.B. - Should already be a radio hit! It will be soon!

Wild Light

When I say the Arcade what is the first thing that comes to mind? Video games? A childhood memory? What about when I say the word fire? The image is just as clear, but darker. Together when I say Arcade Fire, you should think brilliance. That is what everyone should think. That thought should also be created when hearing the two words Wild Light together.

Wild Light was formed from former Arcade Fire band member Timothy Kile. The thing about this band that will trigger a thought of interest in your brain is that the band was formed long before Arcade Fire, the band was formed back when the members were in High School. They all went their separate ways and then reunited in 2005.

Now another thing about this band that will trigger your interest is that they sound similar to Arcade Fire. They are of the same genre and use multiple instruments that are rarely heard. The have the common guitar, bass, and drums. The less common, but not rare piano and synthesizer. They also have the rare instruments, like the harmonica.

To make their music they fuse the common with the uncommon to create an original, yet familiar sound for the ears of their fans. One listen and you will be hooked.

Their debut album, Adult Nights, was released in 2009 and is their only album to date. The thing is though for a debut album, you can hear the chemistry and the excellence this band possesses and to think that this is just the beginning of the next step for this band makes me, and the rest of their fans, eager to see what they come out with next.

Songs I Recommend:
California On My Mind
Heart Attack
New Hampshire
Surf Generation
Canyon City

And make sure to check out the rest of their album.

Belle Histoire

Belle Histoire is a new, unsigned, fantastic band that I know I will be listening to nonstop for a while, and I guarantee if you give them a listen you will too. Honestly I found them by complete and utter chance. I was checking to see what Danny, the other doctor, had been posting on some bands status' and I happened to see that Belle Histoire had liked one of the posts. So naturally I investigated and had to listen. I am so happy that I did. This band right here is why I love talking about and sharing new music. Finding them by chance and within 30 seconds of listening to one song I knew I had stumbled onto something big.

The lead singers voice is nothing short of amazing, and reminded me of a more powerful version of Beth Tacular's of The Bowerbirds. While they have only released an E.P. to date(Spirit E.P.) I can already tell you that they will be around for a while and I will not be surprised when they gain some rapid popularity in this next year. Only four songs are on the E.P. but they are all spectacular and it only took part of one to get me hooked. If four songs was enough to show me the brilliance and talent this band possesses than I cannot imagine what a full album will be like. I can't wait to see what Belle Histoire does in the near future, and I hope that they know they have another life long fan.

Recommended Songs:
They only have four from the E.P. So listen to them all, and I recommend buying the E.P. as well. But they are as follows:
Spirits
Nightmares
Man
Madison

The Last Royals

Ok I am back to posting new bands that need to be known to all. I am sorry I have not posted in a long time, but I would like to thank Cole, the other doctor, for picking up some slack since my last post, Dr. Dog. Some might think that last sentence was sarcasm, those are the ones who aren't our facebook friend or follow us on twitter. See, what Cole did while I was busy was he updated some of our oldest posts that were, well no other way to say it but short but not to the point. There was SO much more about some bands that we posted in the beginning that needed to be said and he went back and updated them adding TONS of info. I recommend checking them out, follow us on twitter or facebook friend us to see which ones he has updated so far!

Now onto the new band I am putting on here, The Last Royals. This band is from NYC and they give off that perfect road trip to NYC vibe. There is a huge difference between West Coast and East Coast Alt. Rock and if you can't tell the difference than listen to The Last Royals and compare them to Fight From Above who is the complete contrast. Both bands make great music but very different.

This band is very recent and playing the cards they were dealt brilliantly and will soon show their hand to the world and win us over. Their clever and catchy lyrics and melodies will win you over and lift your mood. You can picture yourself driving down a fielded road where the speed limit isn't enforced while the cool wind is blowing in your hair and you have that rare feeling that your are free. Whether you are alone or with friends, you will have a blast listening to this album.

This band has just started and only has an EP as of yet, but you can put this band's next album on the small list of things I am honestly waiting on.

Songs I Recommend:
Crystal Vases
Come Take My hand
Backseat Lovers
Always, To Belong

Dr. Dog

Dr. Dog is one of those bands that can do it all and all is well. All is fun and it all puts you in great mood. With pop/rock sounds similar to The Beatles, soulful piano sounds, to bluesy vibes, Dr. Dog is what music is all about.

This band has figured it out. Whether they are playing a badass bluesy song or a catchy indie song with perfect harmonies their songs will grab your attention. Their songs will remind you of music that was made in the 70s, but it isn't wannabe 70s music, it is original and wonderful!

Basically if you like the blues, the beach boys, the Beatles, Neil Young, Pavement, The Shins, The Black Keys or just good music in general I HIGHLY recommend checking this band out immediately.

Songs I Recommend:

- Beach Boys/Bealtes-esk -
The Breeze
Ain't It Strange
The Old Days
My Old Ways

- The Shins-esk -
Shadow People
Jackie Wants A Black Eye

- Bluesy -
The Beach
The Ark

- Soul Jams -

My Friend

DO NOT limit yourself to just these songs though!
