Shapes of Race Cars

Ok so this band has a story from me. I heard their song "Right Now" on the new sobe life water commercial. I immediately needed to know the song because it sounded fun and well, really good too! So after the first time I saw the commercial the only lyric I could remember was "It's What We Want." This is pretty much the most basic line ever and was obviously no help to me. I searched on Google, Yahoo!, I even tried ChaCha. No answers, and no stories on either of the two search engines. I saw the commercial again and made sure to remember all of the lyrics. So I plugged in those bad boys online, and still no answers. It took becoming a fan of Sobe and asking the question on their wall twice for an answer. It was 100% worth it! Not only was I able to listen to the song in it's entirety but it did what I was hoping it to do, open me up to a new band with great music!

So now that you know my story let's get to the band. Shapes of Race Cars is a really fun band and their tunes just put you in the feel good mood. And obvious they are getting some recognition if they are already in Sobe life water commercials. Their 2006 album, Power, uses catchy hooks and melodies to keep the audience intrigued. Let's say they did a very good job. This album is special because you can tell the band is still in it's early stages but you can feel the potential in their music. Listening to this album and thinking about they were just at the start of their career and creating songs like this is unbelievable!

Now moving onto the 2010 album, Beauty Beat, Shapes of Race Cars is able to show that they have grown and matured. This is a very good thing. They continue that raw feeling in some of the songs on this album but they also evolved to a different, yet still great, sound on this album. They add some harmonies into the chorus's of some songs, and they also incorporated the piano. (Which everyone knows that if you can successfully add a piano to your song it can make a decent song good, and a good song great.) They were successful and these songs (Boring Villains, World's End, Bigger Than Sin) are amazing!

So in short this band has a bright future and I am very excited to see them evolve even more.

Songs I Recommend:
Right Now - one of the most catchiest songs I have heard in a long time
World's End - catchy and a really really good (has a tiny dancer by elton john reference so I had to like it)
Get Melted - a catchy song with a raw feeling behind it, great!
Melody Knows
Boring Villains - possibly my second favorite song behind right now

Thirteen Senses

Looking for the new Death Cab or Keane? Well this band is it. Completely. 100%

Music, like life, moves in cycles. Things come and go and sometimes come back. For the time being both of the two bands listed above have gone. Their music is still around and it is great but it looks like it is time for a new band of the same sound to come take their place, this band is Thirteen Senses.

They are hitting on all of the right notes and I would be shocked if they don't become a household name sooner rather than later. Now back to the cycle listed above, for a band to come in and take the place of an older band they must have a similar sound, but also bring something new to the table. Thirteen Senses does just that. Not only is their music similar to those of Keane and Death Cab but it brings in another punch. This punch is that they bring a little more of that electronica sound. They fuse this perfectly with the mellow alternative music with soft drums and heavy piano that fans of Keane and Death Cab are used to.

Thirteen Senses IS the future of alternative music. They will be on the radio and headlining huge tours soon. They have a very very bright future ahead of them and I am really looking forward to seeing what they can bring to the table.

Songs I Recommend:
Into The Fire - My personal favorite and probably will be yours too
Gone
Do No Wrong
Thru The Glass
Imagine Life - My second favorite

Office

This is an alt rock/ indie band that infuses a bit of pop into their music. They put just enough of it into their tunes to make their songs catchy and fun. They remind me of a mixture of bands The Editors, Athlete, Red Light Company, and a little bit of Young The Giant. So as you can see they are similar to a lot of great bands and a combinations of multiple styles of music.

Their 2009 album, Mecca, is full of great catchy songs that you hearing of right before spring! Perfect timing as this music fits the spring season 100% It's the perfect combination, it has just the right upspeed tempo for warm sunny days but also a hint of the mood that is perfect for rainy days too. Office is a great Spring band!

They have a significant following and are already becoming known to those who run the music scene. They have had an album on itunes top 100, they were at lollapalooza in 2006 and 2008, and were one of itunes singles of the week a few years ago. Yet, even with all of this good fortune and recognition they haven't gotten the recognition they deserve. They deserve more fans and I hope by posting this on our blog they gain more. Even if it is just a few, this post has done it's job.

Songs I Recommend:
Nobody Knows You - Sounds like a combination of Beck and Pop
Ridiculous Plans
Sticky Dew
Sleepwalking - personal favorite
Enter Me, Exit You

They aren't of Grooveshark but here are

The Moonbabies

Ok so this band has been around for a while now, 14 years to be exact. They have never been able to get the credit and fame that they deserve and that is a pity. They are an incredible Swedish duo that create some great indie tunes and I am really digging their latest album from 2007, Moonbabies at the Ballroom.

They have had some recent recognition with songs on TV shows such as Greys Anatomy and Eli Stone. Their songs are mellow and melodic, two very different adjectives thatsound very similar. The combination of male and female harmonies adds a certain mysterious, yet peaceful vibe to their songs. Their music is very comforting and relaxing.

This band discovered how to correctly fuse bits and pieces of pop, indie, and alt. rock together and make it sound wonderful. I hope.... HOPE they finally get the recognition they rightfully deserve!

Songs I Recommend:
War on Sound
Take Me To The Ballroom
Shout it Out
---------those 3 songs will give you and idea of their sound--------
However my personal favorite in Walking On My Feet.

The Devil Whale

Ok so this is an up an coming alternative rock band that is on tour. They have already performed with well known bands such as the Cold War Kids and Blue Merle, The Autumn Defense, and many more!

They are a new band and given time have an incredibly high amount of possibility to achieve success! Their debut EP, Young Wives, is full of a number of great songs. If you are a fan of alternative rock with a mild speed tempo, meaningful lyrics, soft and soothing vocals and guitar melodies. Some songs are faster than others and have that catchy sound that will make you tap your feet and bob your head without even knowing it.

This is that perfect band for the times where you need music to calm you down. It isn't sad bu the lyrics are honest and deep. I highly recommend this band. Perfect definition of Mellow Music.

Songs I Recommend:
Barracudas - this is one of their faster songs that will catch your ear
Television Zoo - My personal favorite
Underwater - another catchy song
Patent Boots
The End (Isn't Coming) - a good song but the vocals are distorted, may throw some off.

Saint Motel

So recently the band The Strokes have been gaining a ton of attention with their new album, particularly their song "Under Cover of Darkness." Well if you are a strokes fan Saint Motel is for You!

Saint Motel is one of the many bands we have put on this blog but one of the few we guarantee will make it somewhere in the tough music industry. They are really underground right now, but won't be for long. Trust me, take 1 listen to their album ForPlay and you will see why I am so excited about this band. Their music and videos are so much fun!

I literally cannot say enough about how well this band will do. I have one of my few but always correct gut feelings on this band and I cannot wait until they prove me right!

This is one of those bands you will be able to brag about knowing before they were big and everyone will look at you as a musical master!

Listen to this band driving and you might get a speeding ticket because their music will entrap you and put you in such a good mood you won't notice you are speeding.

Well I wish I could say more about this band but I think by seeing that they have left me speechless is quite enough!

Songs I Recommend: Literally ALL of them

Dear Dictator: Such a strong song with a great bass line, will get your blood pumping!
Butch: An incredibley fun song that should be your summer anthem! So much fun!
Eat Your Heart Out: Another very fun song!
Pity Party: A song that will instantly make you happy!
To My Enemies: Great
Do Everything Now: Another fun and great song.

Once again few bands leave me speechless, this is one of them. Just AWESOME!

The New Limb

Ok so this band is a true indie band with that mainstream sound. If they do not gain nationwide radio play in the next 2 years I will be more than shocked. We all know that indie music and being the first to discover a band is the new "cool" thing to do. Well share this band with your friends because everyone will like them.

They are a fun band that interacts with their fans. They are known by OC as one of the best live bands, maybe that is because they have been known to bake cookies and bring them to their shows and give them to their fans!!! Everybody likes cookies. Everybody will like The New Limb. Everybody has a win-win situation here!

They have released 2 EP's since 2008 and from those EP's many amazing songs have been created. Picture that song on a commercial that always gets stuck in your head because you love it and it is catchy. Picture the song that you catch the last 30 seconds of and you wait for them to say the name of it and it is never said and you spend countless hours googling the one line you remember and never finding it, only to hear it a day or two later and hearing the name of the song and googling the lyrics and finding that the lyric you thought you heard was just 1 or 2 words off. This band has those kind of songs!!!

With the perfect blend of male and female vocal harmonies and up-tempo melodies this band will all but certainly catch your ear.

Songs I Recommend:
Birds And Stuff ( A fun instant hit)
Autumn Leaves (A bit slower, but a great, moving song)
Fire Song (Quite Possibly My Favorite)
Cycle Mother Earth
We Forgive You, Gene
